Leacan - the national 14-19 network
LEACAN 14+ Ltd is a charitable, national network with a specific focus on 14-19 strategic development. Membership is open to education inspectors, advisers, officers and designated consultants employed by Local Authorities and local Learning and Skills Councils in strategic roles with a specific remit for 14-19 planning and development. There is also an opportunity for Professional and Associate members and the criteria is laid out in ’How to Join’
The network was started over 20 years ago by local authority advisers supporting the development of vocational qualifications, who felt it would be beneficial to meet up on a regular basis to share information and good practice.
LEACAN now has over 140 members who represent 75% of local Authorities and 10% of LLSCs across England including representatives from the British Services, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
The network is a charity and a limited company and is managed by 10 Directors/Trustees who represent the English Regions. They form a steering group which meets regularly.
LEACAN provides through its membership a strong supportive role in every area of 14-19 policy and has developed good relationships with policy makers. Members also collaborate with one another through the network; collectively they provide a substantial resource of expertise, information and support.
LEACAN also holds Ad Hoc days to respond to Government policy and advise on strategy and undertakes Project work for Government funded initiatives.
The LEACAN Research Group publishes papers on current issues by gathering data, feedback and ideas from the network in order to inform policy.
